Description
The seeds possess acrid, alexipharmic, anodyne, appetising, aromatic, astringent, bitter, cardiotonic, carminative, depurative, digestive, diuretic, expectorant, febrifuge, fragrant, hepatotonic, stimulant, stomachic, sudorific, and thermogenic properties. They are traditionally prescribed for indigestion, vomiting, biliousness, abdominal pain, halitosis, and rectal disorders.
The seeds are also valued as an aphrodisiac and are used in flatulence, fainting, and certain nervous conditions. They promote bile secretion and support liver function, making them useful in liver congestion and conditions where abscess formation is suspected. Traditional use also includes support in neuralgia and general digestive weakness.
