Description
The leaves are rich in vitamins A and C and exhibit alterative, antibiotic, astringent, carminative, demulcent, diaphoretic, diuretic, nutritive, stimulant, and tonic properties. The whole plant is traditionally used to help control bleeding conditions, including haemorrhages, haematuria, menorrhagia, and nosebleeds.
It is also valued for its use in gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhoea, dysentery, and gastroenteritis. In traditional practice, the plant has been used to support recovery in ulcers, tuberculosis, and fevers, and has also been employed in conditions affecting mental balance. Additional uses include support in gonorrhoea and piles due to its astringent and strengthening actions.
