Description
This species is known for its safety profile, as it does not contain the toxic alkaloid aconitine and is therefore regarded as non-poisonous when used correctly. The tuberous root possesses a wide range of therapeutic properties, including acrid, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiperiodic, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, astringent, bitter, carminative, cholagogue, digestive, expectorant, febrifuge, stomachic, thermogenic, and general tonic actions.
The root is particularly valued for restoring strength in cases of physical weakness and general debility. It is considered an excellent tonic during convalescence, especially after prolonged or recurring fevers, and has traditional use in malarial fever management. It is also beneficial in gastrointestinal disorders such as diarrhoea, dysentery, indigestion, and vomiting.
Additionally, the root supports liver function and is traditionally used in liver-related disorders. It is effective in respiratory conditions, particularly cough, and helps relieve digestive discomfort caused by dyspepsia. Its strong immunostimulant properties make it useful in enhancing the body’s natural resistance to illness. In traditional practice, it is also prescribed for metabolic imbalances and certain internal tumorous conditions.
